Newcastle University Mountaineering Club is a small friendly group of people involved in everything about climbing. We participate in all aspects of the sport, from summer crag-rat climbing wall types, through death defying Scottish winter bods, to expedition orientated individuals with nothing better to do in their summer holidays.

The club welcomes all types, from those who’ve never set foot up a hill to gnarly old crusty Himalayan heroes. We will help and direct those who need advice or an introduction to climbing, but we also allow freedom and self-responsibility to those wanting it.

The club organises trips, either for days or whole weekends, most weeks during term time. Rock climbing venues are usually around Northern England, and Ice Climbing is to Scotland in winter. In addition to official club trips in minibuses, there are opportunities to grab spaces in cars on the many unofficial jaunts.

As well as term time club events, there are always self-organised bigger trips going to the greater mountain ranges in the world, often in collaboration with the Expeditions Society, making us one of the UK’s most prominent and successful university mountaineering clubs.

As a club we offcially meet twice a week Tuesday Evenings at Climb Newcastle and Wednesday afternoons at Newcastle Climbing Centre. To find out more check the other links in the infomation pages section
